No, no, it’s true. Obviously.
quick, make up some excuses…
Well, I’ve been really busy with work and stuff.
That was terrible.
I’ve had other interests? Honestly, these days posting about anything on the internet feels like a dumb idea. Why should I give free content away for the robots to steal?
My social media output has gone way down too. Since “space karen” took over the birdsite, I’ve stopped going there and moved myself over to @robcee@fosstodon.org. It’s fun, and weird, but I feel more self-conscious about posting there. I try hard not to be one of the “reply guys” that gloms onto other people’s conversations. It feels isolating and not entirely friendly. No, I still don’t “have a Facebook“.
It’s not the same as it used to be, that’s for sure. The good-ol’ days of the “fun” social internet have gone the way of the Labrador duck. Everything is politicized and people will come at you with knives out if you say something stupid. God help you if you post something that goes “viral”.
I do like writing though, and should probably post more.
I have some updates on my tiny audio computers. I still like doing things with Raspberry Pis and Linux, but I have some other tools in my bag that have some surprising capabilities that I’d like to talk about.
I’ve been thinking more about writing books and science fiction again. I won’t make any promises this time, but I’d love to get back into regular writing. Most recently I’ve been thinking about the looming spectre of “artificial intelligence” and how it’s affecting the internet. (hint, it’s not great)
I still like photography, but my relationship with cameras and the gear has changed quite a lot. The industry has changed too so that’s not surprising. My iPhone’s getting a lot more use as a camera than my Olympus these days.
Anyway, 2024. Wild, eh?
